The Institute recognizes the need of providing higher education comparable to that attained at top North American universities for FREE to students in developing countries and for free or a reduced cost to those less fortunate in developed countries.
Ottawa, ON, October 5, 2006: NewStart Institute, a charitable organization based in Ottawa, is pleased to announce the opening of its fall 2006 university level programs, using the Internet for all venues of study and instructional communications, and is currently recruiting students to join their four-year business program.
The Institute's VISION
To address the needs of students residing in developing countries by providing them with higher education that is comparable to that offered at the best universities in North America, yet at no cost to the students. It aims to provide university education to less fortunate individuals living in developed countries at reduced or no cost. The goal is to raise the student's own potential as well as their home country's potential.
The Institute's CURRENT PROGRAM
A four-year business program is offered, modeled after the Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) degrees given in North American colleges and universities. Presently offered are 3 of the first year compulsory courses and 2 preparatory courses. As the year progresses, the remaining first year courses will be added. The goal is to have all courses on-line for students such that someone starting today, graduates in four years time. Accreditation for the Institute will be sought after it has completed one full year of operation.
The Institute's DELIVERY OF INSTRUCTION
Courses are delivered to students over the Internet using an e-learning software package called "Moodle". The entire teaching process of instructing, testing, grading, evaluating, responding to questions and providing supplementary materials is performed through "Moodle" itself. The Institute provides training to students on how to use "Moodle", as it has been tailored to suit the Institute's programs and needs. Courses are textbook-based which are current, affordable and accessible to all students.
Presently, all textbooks selected are free as the instructors make every effort to find affordable textbooks to lessen the financial burden placed on the students.
